Burlingame

 

Burlingame is an affluent city located on the shores of San Francisco Bay. Burlingame is often called “City of Trees” due to its abundant eucalyptus groves. This peaceful community offers a convenient commute to San Francisco or Silicon Valley tech hubs, with two Caltrain stations and easy access to U.S. Highway 101 and Route 82. It lies south of the fog belt and enjoys great weather throughout the year. Burlingame’s tranquil residential streets are lined with an attractive array of architecture styles from the 1920s and mid-century to present day: American Foursquare, Tudor Revival, classic California ranches, and Mediterranean Revival. While a majority are single-family homes, there are a handful of modern condominium buildings.

Burlingame is a diverse community with a charming small-town feel that’s perfect for families. The vibe is friendly and laid-back, while its growing downtown area provides an eclectic choice of shops and restaurants. The community also has a bayfront stretch with parks, hotels, and restaurants.

Burlingame’s lively downtown area features hundreds of shops and restaurants. Michelin-starred Rasa serves sublime South Indian cuisine, while Pizzeria Delfina, Sapore Italiano, and Il Fornaio offer outstanding Italian cooking. European-American meals and delicious baked goods are served at Copenhagen Bakery & Cafe, and mouthwatering Peruvian cuisine can be found at Limon Rotisserie. For a unique dining experience, take a stroll among Off the Grid food trucks, where a plethora of different options are available.  

Downtown’s shops include an Apple Store, Sur La Table, and Safeway. There is a quieter shopping area near the Broadway Caltrain station, where you can find mom-and-pop stores, Asian and Italian restaurants, NY-style steaks and dry-aged prime rib at Broadway Prime, and woodfired meat and live jazz at Broadway Grill. Bayfront restaurants, such as Kincaid’s Fish, Chop & Steakhouse, serve meals in spaces with enchanting waterfront views.

Bayside Park features miles of trails, lighted soccer and softball fields, and a dog exercise park next to San Francisco Bay. Free, family-friendly Movies in the Park are also offered on select weekends. The adjacent Burlingame Golf Center has a driving range with expert instruction for adults and special programs for children. Avid golfers can also easily reach the exclusive Burlingame Country Club, which is in the neighboring Hillsborough community. Mills Canyon Park, a natural open space at Burlingame’s southwest corner, has a variety of tree covers: coast live oaks, California bays, and redwoods. The park’s 1.5-mile trail loop is open for hiking, running, and on-leash dog-walking.

Burlingame’s public schools are operated by the Burlingame School District and San Mateo Union High School District.
